Active Learning in the College Classroom: Teaching Practices that Foster Student Engagement
11:00 am - 12:30 pm, February 21, 2017
Led by Jane Marone, Mike Stieff, & Maria Varelas
In this workshop, participants will explore a variety of instructional practices that offer students opportunities to engage and interact with content and each other in meaningful and diverse ways. Topics that will be discussed include concept mapping, multimodality, peer instruction and group work, use of classroom response systems (e.g., clickers), and frequent informal assessment of student thinking. Presenters will share principles behind each practice, and demonstrate ways to enact this practice in large and small classes. Participants will have the opportunity to develop ways to implement these practices in their own classes.
