Fraternity Travel and Volunteerism
This past August, brothers from the Kappa Psi, Epsilon Rho Chapter, and Chi Chapter traveled to Naples, Florida for the 58th Grand Council Convention where they attended meetings and workshops with collegiate and graduate brothers from all over the country.
Students Traveling to Legislative Day
On March 7th, 120 students attended Illinois Legislative Day. "Leg Day," as it's known, is an opportunity for pharmacy students and pharmacists to advocate for the profession by visiting Illinois state legislators in their offices in Springfield.
The Albert Ebert Lecture
Dr. Jenelle Sobotka, from the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy, was the guest speaker at the 46th Annual Albert Ebert Memorial Lecture. Dr. Sobtka shared her story as a new clinical pharmacist in her early career at the VA as well as her patient experiences and talk entitled "Follow the Yellow Brick Road to Your Future." She encouraged students to be courageous, compassionate, and to constantly advance the profession of pharmacy as they are the future of pharmacy practice.
In Their Own Words
“Thank you to the College of Pharmacy for awarding me this travel grant and allowing me to experience APhA Annual 2018 in Nashville, TN. I was able to connect with fellow pharmacy leaders from across the world and see one of my favorite professors and mentors Dr. Wilken give a talk about COPD. Thank you so much to UIC College of Pharmacy for making this trip possible.”
Michelle Smith, Class of 2019
"Presenting research projects and networking with fellow students and pharmacists has provided excellent opportunities to refine my research design and presentation skills, which has inspired me to pursue a fellowship in health outcomes research."
Ali Alobaidi, Class of 2018
“As a third year pharmacy student presenting a poster for the first time at AMCP 2017 Nexus, I believe this experience has improved my confidence and ability to successfully network with my peers and professional colleagues. I look forward to future opportunities to share my additional research findings at other conferences such as ASHP’s Midyear Meeting in 2018.”
Chris Oh, Class of 2019
"The scholarships I was awarded were a humble gift from you, yet to me, it meant much more. It was an appreciation gift I present to my parents. They are the ones that deserve this recognition due to their countless efforts and sacrifices that they have made for me. Within the happiness of my parents and the people I have helped lies my own. I am left with no other obligation than to thank those who have helped me. I would not be where I am today without the guidance and direction of my parents, peers, colleagues, and mentors. Through the sacrifice of others, I am motivated to continue contributing to the community and student body.”
Madiha Khan, Class of 2019
“The Student Travel Award means that I can present my research at ASHP’s Midyear Meeting and network with residency programs from across the country. Students come here because we care about the organization, our school, and about fulfilling our professional oath. Knowing that when we leave, we’ve been able to make a difference.”
Paula Bielnicka, Class of 2018
