The University of Illinois Pharmacognosy Field Station is located in Downers Grove, Illinois (~20 miles west of Chicago). The facility, which used to be called the Drug and Horticultural Experimental Station, has operated since the 1950s on a 40-acre tract of land. Ten of those acres are owned by the University, the remainder are leased by the Morton Arboretum. The 10-acre piece of land feature a medicinal plant garden and two large greenhouses connected to a central unit comprised of office, mechanical workshop, garage and storage areas. There is also a large building for storage of bulk plant materials. The remaining land consists of open meadows and wooded tracts, interrupted by two ponds and a stream.
