Overview:
Katherine (Kathy) Sarna, PharmD, BCPS, holds the position of Clinical Assistant Professor and Drug Information Clinical Pharmacist within the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Pharmacy (COP) Drug Information Group (DIG). She earned her PharmD degree from Midwestern University and subsequently completed a PGY1 pharmacy residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, followed by a PGY2 specialty residency in drug information at the DIG.

Within the DIG, Dr. Sarna is actively involved in a variety of medical writing activities, including responding to clinicians’ drug information requests, creating and maintaining comprehensive drug, device, and diagnostic test reviews, and drafting needs assessments for grants. Her responsibilities also include coordinating and instructing courses at UIC COP and training PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents.

Dr. Sarna’s expertise extends to lecturing on various drug information topics, including medical writing, drug information resources and the systematic approach, trial design, literature evaluation, and evidence-based practice. Notably, she co-developed the Evidence-based Medicine (PHAR440) and Medical Writing (PMPR450) courses at the UIC COP.
