Directions in Oncology Pharmacy: A Virtual Experience (Midwest)

This continuing education program is directed toward pharmacists practicing in oncology in multiple practice environments, including health-system, specialty pharmacy, outpatient clinic, infusion center, and retail settings.

Topics will include Disparities in Cancer Care, B-Cell malignancies, non-small cell lung cancer, colorectal cancer, and multiple myeloma!

Upon completion of this application-based educational conference, pharmacists will be able to:

  • Examine recently approved and expanded indications for immunotherapies and targeted therapies, including evidence for use based on biomarkers as well as efficacy and safety
  • Analyze current hematologic and solid malignancy guidelines, including for multiple myeloma, lung, and other cancers, for how evolving agents fit into the treatment paradigm
  • Identify the role of pharmacists in managing adverse effects, educating the health care team and patients, improving patient adherence, and coordinating care to improve patient outcomes

Overview: Rapidly evolving use of immunotherapies and targeted therapies has changed the landscape for anticancer treatment. The complexity of new regimens and the need for coordination of care across practice and pharmacy settings has reinforced and expanded the roles of pharmacists both clinically and operationally. It is essential for pharmacists across settings to understand the different treatment options and dosing regimens, implement methods to improve patient adherence, educate other health care team members, and counsel patients during onboarding and ongoing treatment to manage potential adverse effects associated with these agents to optimize patient care and outcomes.

Target Audience: This continuing education program is directed toward pharmacists practicing in oncology, in multiple practice environments including, health-system, specialty pharmacy, outpatient clinic, infusion center, and retail settings.
