Overview:
Christina M. Carrizales Cortez, Pharm.D., BCPS, 340B ACE is the 340B Assistant Director for the Department of Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Services and Clinical Assistant Professor for the College of Pharmacy at the University of Illinois. She ensures 340B program compliance and integrity among the six health system owned contract pharmacies. Prior to her current role, for nine years she served as a clinical staff pharmacist for outpatient pharmacies at UI Health. During her clinical staff outpatient pharmacist role, five years were as the staff pharmacist at Mile Square Pharmacy- UI Health- a pharmacy that predominantly services patients of the federally qualified health center. While working at Mile Square Pharmacy she saw the value of participating in the 340B program as it bridged the healthcare gap among the underserved uninsured community. The patient stories of how the 340B program helped them in their health journey was the fuel for Christina to transition to ensuring the integrity of this vital program. In addition to her 340B Compliance Assistant Director role, she is a course coordinator and instructor for the UI-College of Pharmacy Spanish for Pharmacists online asynchronous elective that is available to student without additional prerequisites. One of her interests includes preparing future pharmacists to address health disparities. She promotes volunteering and serves as a faculty advisor to the National Hispanic Student Pharmacist Association – UIC COP chapter.
