Rockford Students and Faculty Participate in Interprofessional Event

On Friday, February 16th, P1 students (Marek Mlodzianowski, Erin Roberts, and Seth Schiffbauer) and Rockford faculty members (Drs. Olson and Deshpande (Vajaria) participated in the 5th annual NIU Interprofessional Case Study Discussion in DeKalb, Illinois.

This half-day event is focused on learning about where each profession fits in a specific patient care scenario.  This year, over 200 students from 8 different healthcare professions (pharmacy, audiology, speech-language pathology, dietetics, physical therapy, rehabilitation counseling, nursing, and professional counseling) learned how to prioritize the healthcare needs of a busy, young family that recently experienced the loss of a child.

The keynote speaker discussed strategies that healthcare professionals can utilize when providing care to patients that have experienced a loss.  Overall, this event showcased how interprofessional collaboration is vital to meeting the healthcare needs of a patient and their family
