Rockford Summer Scholar, Cindy Li, Shares Her Experience

Rockford Summer Scholars Program

Pharmacy is a quickly evolving field, with new advances and innovations changing our perspectives on treating various disease states. I have always been interested in the innovative aspect of pharmacy, so this summer I participated in cancer research as a Summer Scholar in Dr. Les Hanakahi’s lab at UIC College of Pharmacy at Rockford. I completed an eight-week project that I presented at the conclusion of my summer. This experience helped me realize my strength of applying scientific knowledge to generate answers and solutions. I also learned how to develop the vocabulary to express my findings to others inside and outside the field. Now, research is a path that I can seriously consider when making decisions regarding my career.

Why Rockford

I selected the Rockford campus because of the small and intimate class size. I was attracted to the idea of working together with a close-knit group of individuals with diverse strengths and backgrounds to draw from. I wanted to become involved on campus and familiar with faculty so that I may easily tailor my education to fit my strengths and interests. Despite the small size, the Rockford campus offers a variety of experiences and resources that may help each student become successful.
