Rockford PharmD Students Volunteer at Local Elementary School
Rockford PharmD students Morgan Bollech, Kyle Huttner, Amolee Patel, Jacquelyn Punches participated in the McIntosh Elementary School Career Day on Thursday, April 27, 2017. Punches serves as the Generation Rx coordinator for APhA; Bollech serves as the coordinator for OTC Medicine Safety and Self Care for APhA; Patel serves as VP Patient Care and Huttner serves as the President-Elect.
As active members of APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP), these students showcased and promoted the profession of pharmacy through hands-on activities including providing information on medication safety, how to read a prescription label, and answered questions about what a pharmacist does on a daily basis. PharmD student volunteers indicated that "They had a lot of fun at the event and hope to continue this is the future!"
K-5th students were also able to try on a white coat during the event which added to the festivities. Students came equipped with questions such as how much schooling is required to be a pharmacist, where do pharmacists typically work, and what subjects should they study if they would like to be a pharmacist.
