Rockford Pharmacy Students Collaborate with U of I Extension
Rockford pharmacy students have been collaborating with U of Illinois Extension to create a Pharmacy SPIN (special interest) Club for the children at Northwest Community Center. The Pharmacy SPIN Club met for the first time last week to discuss club goals and build communication skills.
During the Pharmacy SPIN Club meeting, Rockford pharmacy students were visited by Kim Kidwell, Dean of U of I College of ACES, and Dr. George Czapar, Associate Dean and Director of Extension.
Facilitated by Dr. Heidi Olson, PharmD, one of the goals of the Pharmacy SPIN club is to create awareness of pharmacy as a career option amongst 3rd grade students through application of basic science and math concepts. Students will engage in hands on activities to learn about poison prevention, teamwork, how to make an emulsion, and the basic steps of filling a prescription. These activities are created and led by current 2nd and 3rd year pharmacy students.
