Every August, the Atkins Medicinal Plant Garden hosts a one-day Garden Walk event that is open to the public. This year, the Garden Walk will also feature the Distinguished Annual Norman R. Farnsworth Lecture, presented by Dr. Elaine Elisabetsky, an ethnopharmacologist and Professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Porto Alegre, Brazil).

Faculty and scientists, including postgraduate trainees in UIC's Pharmacognosy Institute and the College of Pharmacy, will provide tours of the garden from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The 2024 Farnsworth Lecture will begin at 12:30 p.m.

The Farnsworth Lectureship in Pharmacognosy is hosted in memory of Norman R. Farnsworth, who was one of the College's most dedicated pharmacy educators and internationally renowned, transformational pharmacognosy researchers. His scientific and educational contributions relate to the chemistry, biology, and therapeutic properties of medicinal plants and natural products.
