Joint vs Dual

UIC makes a distinction between joint and dual degree programs.  Approved joint degree programs share a certain number of courses that are used for both degrees.  With dual degree programs, there is no course overlap between the two degrees.

PharmD/PhD

We offer a joint PharmD/PhD degree program. Students in the program can pursue the PharmD degree at the same time as any of our PhD degrees.

The joint program is designed for students interested in both the clinical aspects of pharmacy and research. With careful selection and timing of courses, joint program students can earn both degrees in less overall time than it would take to complete each degree separately.

PharmD/MBA

book

The College of Business Administration and the College of Pharmacy offer a program of study leading to the Master of Business Administration and the Doctor of Pharmacy, or PharmD/MBA degree. The joint program is designed for students seeking healthcare and business preparation for healthcare executive positions such as:

  • Government
  • Hospital systems
  • Long-term care
  • Health organizations
  • Planning/regulatory bodies
  • Consulting
