Michael Forst, P3, has been selected for the inaugural cohort of the Phi Lambda Sigma Leader Academy Class

Michael Forst

Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS), an American college honor society for pharmacy students, has recently announced the inaugural PLS Leader Academy Class. We’re proud to announce that Michael Forst, P3, was selected to be a member of the inaugural cohort of the PLS Leader Academy Class.

Receiving nearly 80 applications nationwide for the original eight spots available, the organization decided to launch with two cohorts, each with eleven collegiate members. Forst currently serves as the National Delegate for the Alpha Iota chapter – UIC's chapter of PLS.

Forst shares details about the program goals: “We will utilize GiANT's self-awareness process to increase our emotional quotient, or emotional intelligence, to become more effective in our communication, time management, influence, and executive. The goal is to improve our leadership abilities and bring what we learn back to our respective chapters. In doing so, we will promote optimal leadership within our colleagues of our chapter and college of pharmacy.”

Dr. Adam Bursua, Clinical Assistant Professor and PLS Alpha Iota faculty advisor, reflects on the importance of Forst being selected for the inaugural PLS Leader Academy Class. "Leadership training is critical for the development of tangible communication, organization, and interpersonal skills that are vital to current and future leader’s success. Such training involves deep introspection that will challenge one’s definition and understanding of the nature of genuine leadership. We are fortunate that our own Michael Forst was selected for the PLS leadership academy, and we are excited to hear about the tools, skills, and perspective he will gain through this experience. Congratulations to Michael and our Chapter!"

Forst shares more insight about why he applied and what he looks forward to. “I am extremely humbled and honored to be a part of the inaugural Academy class. I applied for the Academy because I wanted to learn about myself to the deepest core. I want to pull myself out of my comfort zone and, in doing so, I will engage in unique, meaningful conversations. These conversations will allow me to develop both professionally and personally do the same for colleagues within my chapter and college of pharmacy. I am very excited to be a part of the Academy and work with UIC College of Pharmacy to promote and develop leaders of pharmacy.”
