Illinois’ fourth-largest city, Rockford is known for its many parks and forest preserves, as well as theaters, museums, and other “big city amenities” in the context of a smaller-town feel and cost-of-living.
While the UIC College of Pharmacy is considered “One College, Two Campuses” with the Rockford and Chicago campuses, the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at Rockford offers most of its unique rotations with clinical faculty at various hospitals and clinics in the Rockford region. Â The College educates and trains students, residents, and fellows as well as practicing pharmacists to become nationally recognized for their leadership, knowledge, and competence in practice, research, and teaching.
The College is part of UIC Health Sciences Campus which includes the Colleges of Medicine and Nursing. Being so closely associated with the other colleges on campus leads to unique interprofessional education opportunities in Rockford.

Program
The UIC College of Pharmacy – Rockford Campus is pleased to offer a one-year PGY1 pharmacy residency. The program is designed to enhance the skills and knowledge obtained during Doctor of Pharmacy education. By focusing on developing clinical pharmacists prepared to offer medication-related care on multidisciplinary teams, the program provides the advantages of preparation for board certification and PGY2 pharmacy residency training. Under the mentorship and guidance of experienced clinical faculty members, the pharmacy resident will transition from a student to an independent practitioner during the 12-month program.
The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program resident must complete six clinical rotations in anticoagulation, drug information, family medicine, HIV/hepatitis C, hypertension, and internal medicine.
The resident will also have the opportunity to select elective rotations based on professional interests and career goals.
The UIC College of Pharmacy Rockford Campus PGY-1 residency program is fully accredited  by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP)

Teaching
- Gain experience teaching and precepting P1-P4 students
- Providing an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education accredited seminar
- Lecture in core pharmacy courses
- Complete a teaching certificate program
Research
- Conduct a longitudinal research project to be presented at Great Lakes Residency Conference
- Enhance manuscript development and submission skills
Staffing
- Every other weekend at a partner health-system
Certifications
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Teaching certificate program
Requirements
- PharmD degree
- Licensure in Illinois
- Ability to start residency on July 1
